Football

Our signup dates are held in July. We are part of the Central Maine Football League. Our season will usually starts mid-August with games beginning in Sept. Once we have meeting with the league, we will be able to provide more information and game schedule for this upcoming season.
Flag Football is for kids in grades K, 1 & 2. The fee for flag football is $50.
Contact football is for boys and girls in grades 3 through 8. Children entering grade 3 in the fall are eligible to register. The fee for football is $150.
Teams are broken into 3 groups; 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade & 7th/8th grade
Flag football along with the 3rd through 6th grader teams USUALLY play games on Saturdays and will travel to surrounding towns. The 7th and 8th grades game schedule will be announced once completed by league. They play middle school programs from several different towns.
Contact athletes will be provided with everything needed above the waist minus mouth guard. (Jersey, shoulder pads, and helmets). Everything under the waist and mouth guard will need to be supplied by the athlete. the usual: cleats, protective cup, 7 piece padded black football game pants and any shirt large enough to fit over shoulder pads during practices.
Cheerleading

Fee for football cheering is $50. They will cheer for the AYS Football teams at both home and away games. Cheerleading squads are normally broken up by grade to coincide with the football team ages. Depending on the number of sign ups, there may not be one squad per football team and/or cheerleaders may cheer for 2 teams or grades may differ. Our football teams, we cheer for are part of the Central Maine Football League. Our season will hopefully start Mid-August. Field Hockey

Field hockey is for kids in grades preK-6. Registration fee is $50. LITTLE STICKS level is for preK through 2nd grade and will focus on introducing basic field hockey knowledge, basic stick/ball handling skills, athletic development and having fun. They will hold their sessions on a weekend morning. REGULAR FIELD HOCKEY: There are generally two teams. One for 3rd - 4th grade and another for grades 5 & 6. or depending on numbers One for 2nd-3rd and another for 4th-6th. Field hockey teams usually play on the weekends and some travel is required for away games. In the past, teams have traveled to Poland, Skowhegan, Mt. Blue and Winthrop. AYS is always looking for other towns to compete against We are hoping to start our season Mid-August. Once we have meet with surrounding towns, we will provide more information and game schedule. Players must provide their own stick, goggles, shin guards, cleats and mouthguard.
Indoor Field Hockey
Field Hockey Director: OPEN
This four week indoor field hockey program is open to girls, grades 3rd-6th that are interested in bettering their skills or looking to playing small-sided (7vs7) games in a competitive environment during off season.
Grades 3rd-6th Session will start with first half an hour being warmups/drills. Then the last hour of session, athletes will participate be game play. Games will be instructional and competitive.
Games:
· Games will be a rotating, 15 minutes long and each team will play at least 2 games.
· We will use indoor floor hockey balls.
· 7 players from each team on the floor, which includes the goalie
· Substitutions will be made on the fly
· The ball will be played off the walls and bleachers for lots of action and fast pace.
· So that everyone can experience playing with others, teams will be divided up each
session.
· Each player must have field hockey stick. Each player will be required to wear the
following; THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS; if a child does not have these items they WILL NOT be allowed to play.
1. Non-marking soled sneakers
2. Shin guards
3. Mouth-guards
4. Goggles
Due to space, registrations will be limited to the first 27 children. Cost is $30/child for the program. Day & Times TBA, starting Mid-March and running until mid-April
Session Breakdown (1.5 hour session)
· 30 minutes of warmups/drills
· 60 minutes of Game Play (15 minute game followed by a 5 minute break, repeat)
Cap at 27 players (possible 3 teams of 9)
Soccer

AYS soccer is for boys & girls grades pre-k to 6th grade. Sign ups are held Mid June to Mid July. Registration fee is $50. Season usually runs from Mid-late August to October. Little Kickers (Pre-K-1st grade) Regular soccer (some 1st-6th grade). Athletes need to supply their own shin guards, mouth guards and cleats.
This season our AYS soccer program will do a little bit of reshuffling and revamping. AYS soccer has the opportunity for our premier teams to travel to area towns to play some cross over games that will give them more exposure to the sport to better prepare themselves for competitive school soccer in MS and HS. Unfortunately to go this route, we will no longer have soccer opened up to 7th & 8th graders. Other area teams cap off at 6th grade and their premier teams play grades 4th-6th.
Here's a look at the levels we offer.
Little Kickers-
For grades PreK, Kindergarten. Little Kickers is also open
to 1st graders that are first year players or aren't ready to move up to
competition play. If parents wish, their child can repeat Little Kickers or
they can sign their 1st grader up for the Juniors Division.
*The focus will be on developing soccer skills, athletic development and having fun.
*Sessions will take place at the SMHS Practice Soccer Field every Saturday morning at 830am for soccer activities that will include instruction and group drills.
*We will have small sided scrimmage games with goals the
last 2 weeks of the season.
*Each child will receive a shirt.
* Often will get SM Middle School and SM High School soccer
players to help as coaches.
Juniors- (Coed Teams) Home Games only
Grades 1 through 3
*Focus will be on advancing skill development of passing,
dribbling, positioning and fun.
*Games will be every Saturday with 1-2 practices during the
week
*Games will be 2- 20 minute halves and 6 v 6 (+ GK) OR 8 v 8
(+GK)
* Practice times and
locations will be determined by each team coach
Premier- Girls/ Boys Teams (Home and Away Games)
Grades 4 through 6
*Focus is on fun and
developing team play by implementing more of a game strategy as well as
improving proper positioning, understanding the rules of the games, standard fundamentals of skills and goal
scoring.
*Games will be every Saturday with 1-2 practices / week
*Each game will be 2-
30 minute halves and 10 v 10 (+ GK)
*Games will be Saturday from 9am to 2pm at the SMMS Soccer field for home games
and away games against towns within the
tri-county soccer league.
*Practice times and locations will be determined by each
team coach
AYS INDOOR SOCCER

This six week indoor soccer league is open to both boys and girls grades 1-8 that are interested in playing small-sided (6 v 6) games in a competitive environment. This will be strictly game competition. NO PRACTICES! NO SKILLS AND DRILLS!
Due to space, registrations will be limited to the first 32 children in each of the two divisions. Cost is $50/child for the program.
Games: Monday/ Wednesdays, starting Mid March and running until mid through April ( 6 weeks- 12 sessions)
Games will be a rotating 10-15 minutes long and each team will play 3 games or more.
We will use indoor soccer balls for all games

There are several components to the basketball program. AYS offers
programs for both boys and girls in grades pre-k through 8. Players in
Pre-k, K and grade 1 will participate in the Little Hoopsters skills and
drills program. This program is designed to introduce the children to
the fundamentals of basketball. Players in grades 2 through 8 will be
placed into teams in the following groups: Minors - Grades 2-4
Majors - Grades 5-8
Due to limited gym space, the boys and girls programs alternate start dates each year. One program signups are in October and runs in December and January while the next program signups are in December and runs in February and March. Signup fee is $40.00 for regular basketball and $30.00 for Little Hoopsters. Athletes must provided gym sneakers and basketball shorts.

Wrestling

Wrestling is for both boys and girls; grades prek-8th!! It is open to the youth in our community and surrounding communities. Sign up fee is $40 for local youth and $50 for out of town youth. This program focuses on learning basic skills and techniques along with rules and will be a 6 wk session with practices 2 times a week. Wrestlers will have the option to compete in tournaments if director feels wrestlers are ready for that next step. Additional tournament fees may apply.
Babe Ruth Baseball

Babe Ruth baseball is for athletes between the ages of 13-15. The cutoff date for eligibility is April 30th. Sign ups are normally held in mid-Feb through mid-March. Signup fee is $150.00 The Babe Ruth baseball season runs from May to early July. Generally, there are two teams. A prep team made up of the younger athletes and a major team comprised of the older kids. Athletes must supply their own glove, baseball pants, socks and cleats.

Cal Ripken Baseball is for kids from 7 - 12 years old. The league is made up of 3 divisions: Rookie League (ages 7-8), Minor (ages 9-10) and Major (ages 11-12). May 1st of the current year is the date for determining age. Signups are usually held in mid-Feb through mid-March. Sign up fee is $60.00-$70.00. Our program runs from April depending on weather and field condition to June or July. Athletes must supply their own baseball glove, cleats, baseball pants and socks.
Softball

Softball is for girls ages 7-12. Teams are broken up by age as of January 1st on any given year and are divided up by 8U (8 and under), 10U, and 12U. Sign ups are typically held mid-Feb March to mid-March. Signup fee is $60.00-$70.00. We are currently part of the Franklin County Softball League. The season normally runs from the last week of April until late June. Athletes are required to supply their own glove, pants and cleats.
