Football 2020 update

Posted on September 12, 2020 at 3:15 PM Comments comments (0)

AYS ANNOUCEMENT TO FOOTBALL FAMILIES

As many of you know, CMFL has been officially shut down by the State of Maine Community Sports Guidelines for contact football. The only way we can have a tackle season at AYS would be to play scrimmages within our AYS teams. Registration numbers do not allow us to have multiple teams. So unfortunately, this does not work for our program.

However, we are going ahead with our backup plan of 7 vs 7 flag football for all levels. (K-8th) We understand this is not ideal, but we are doing everything we can to give these kids something to do! State of Maine guidelines has 7 vs 7 flag football as a Level 4, allowing teams to play games between teams from the same geographic area (e.g. the same county and in some cases adjacent counties). This level of play involves two cohorts of participants. We are currently in contact with area teams to make a game schedule. Our teams will practice 2 times a week and have Saturday games. Our goal is to get them 4 to 6 games this season.

With all the negativity in the world, we at AYS hope to focus on the positive. A year away from the tradition contact football can be fun and beneficial to our football athletes. Playing a flag season, allows us to get back to some of the fundamentals of the sport of football and lets us continue to teach the athletes commitment, dedication and work ethic. Flag football offers opportunities to improve skills & knowledge.

• Skill position fundamentals. Our athletes can improve throwing and receiving mechanics without contact. Sometimes, the fear contact alters an athletes’ mechanics.

• Defensive fundamentals. Flag players must see the ball, play the pass and grab the flag. Grabbing a flag can sometimes be harder than making a tackle. The proper technique in grabbing a flag is transferable to tackle football and helps with proper tackling technique.

• Work ethic. Just like everything else in life, reaching goals requires work. Flag offers another great environment for athletes of all levels to participate in and learn the benefits of working hard individually and as a team.

• Mental & Physical Health. It is the perfect way for athlete & their peers to bond and have fun. It will help keep athletes in good physical condition. It is great for physical interaction with others for a sense of belonging.

Flag league will be a $40 registration fee. Athletes will receive a team shirt and a flag belt. We will open registrations today until Sunday night. We hope to start practices next week.

REGISTER TODAY at www.ayssports.siplay.com Let us get out there on the field and make 2020 the best it can be!

Le't play ball!!

Posted on June 14, 2020 at 11:20 AM Comments comments (0)

Good morning! We are excited to announce AYS BASEBALL & SOFTBALL are ready to begin!! We have been working hard all week to get everything together for a fun modified season.

Emails have been sent out by our Commissioners with important information, teams/groups have been formed, coaches have meet and equipment is ready!

Basic guidelines: Athletes should not come to practices or scrimmages of not feeling well. Hand sanitizer and sanitizing of products are required before during and after. AYS will provide individual hand sanitizers to players and have sanitation products available during events. Players should provide own snack or labeled drink. No sharing! Sunflower seeds are prohibited. Spectators should bring own chairs for social distancing and follow guidelines of 6ft away from individuals outside home while face coverings are recommended. CDC & AYS recognize that face coverings are not compatible with many sports and inhibit respiration during exercise. Face coverings are not recommended for players during practice or competition. Face coverings are recommended for spectators if social distancing cannot be maintained. Players should refrain from physical contact, hugs, high fives, etc. While we strongly encourage players to have their own equipment, as safety precaution. AYS will have helmets and bats available for use if you do not have one.

SEE YOU ON THE DIAMOND SOON!!! LET’S PLAY BALL!!

AYS UPDATE

Posted on May 30, 2020 at 1:15 PM Comments comments (0)

WE MISS ALL OF OUR AYS KIDS & THEIR FAMILIES!!

Sorry it’s been awhile since we have posted. We, like most of you, have been stuck in a depressing wait and see what happens situation when it comes to life and our AYS program.

As you may or may not be aware, community sports were under the Stage 2: June 1st reopening plan for the State of Maine. Just recently, the guidelines for community sports were put out for us to review. After much consideration and following the current guidelines of COVID-19 the traditional spring travel leagues for Franklin County Softball and Cal Ripken Baseball has been officially cancelled. I understand that this news is upsetting too many of our families and their children as it is to us.

However, AYS, currently, along with some neighboring towns are working towards possibly offering an alternate in house season or clinic style program for softball & baseball that coincides with the newly released CDC guidelines on Community sports. We plan to do whatever changes are needed to get our AYS kids out on the diamond! Right now, we are in limbo as we are waiting to see if any new changes come on June 1st from the State of Maine. We are also on hold waiting to hear from our towns and schools of when fields will reopen and be available for our use. Once we get those programs figured out, we will focus on our tee ball program.

At this time, we are requesting to hear from all of our spring sports registered families on whether or not your child is still interested in participating so we can continue to plan accordingly.

Going forward, AYS will continue to analyze and adjust our programs with the guidelines provided by CDC. Our goal is to provide as many of our programs possible while following the guidelines and recommendations of safety.

Please stay tuned for more information on these programs along with plans on our postponed indoor soccer and field hockey. Thank you for being patient as we work through all of this.

AYS VOLUNTEER IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Posted on March 25, 2020 at 6:20 PM Comments comments (0)

AYS Volunteer in the Spotlight is Katie Boivin.

Do you have kids involved in AYS? (I know you do but this is for the people )

I have a 10 almost 11 year old Boy Drew.

What sports have you coached?

I’ve coached soccer and basketball and have helped coach baseball.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Livermore Falls, and have always been involved in AYS sports even as a young child.

Youth sports that you played?

I grew up playing soccer, field hockey, basketball, softball, and golf team

What is your career?

I am a Dental Hygienist working at Community Dental

What have you enjoyed most about participating/volunteering with AYS sports?

My family is from this close knit community of Jay, Livermore, Livermore Falls, and back then even Fayette (which in the early 90’s had a huge softball team) my dad and several of my aunts and uncles have been on the AYS board, boosters, announced games, refereed, and have coached several teams through the years.

I’ve always loved how AYS keeps the kids active, involved, learning and social with kids their own age. The success of this program lies directly on the volunteers that help. Especially this last year my son has moved to a higher level which I’ve had to take to YouTube to help my coaching skills, I’ve looked up drills, ball handling skills and different plays to put together a play book for the kids. I really enjoy seeing how the kids improve throughout the season, it feels good to see a player who can’t reach the rim score a basket in a game, or dribble a ball down and finally use a fake out move to get open. It takes a whole community to raise a child and that is proven by all the great people that keep AYS a success.

*THANK YOU KATIE FOR ALL YOU DO FOR OUR AYS PROGRAM. WE APPRECIATE YOU!*

No matter if we have to start at a later date due to the situations happening with Convid-19, we will still offer all of these sports to our youth. Covid-19 & AYS update

Posted on March 14, 2020 at 7:30 PM Comments comments (0)

In accordance with RSU 73’s latest update to cancel all events that bring in the community and to suspend nonessential meetings and in regards to COVID-19, AYS has decided to cancel the final week of the girls basketball season and postpone indoor soccer and indoor field hockey until March 31st, at which time we will reevaluate and hopefully be able to resume.

Indoor Soccer and Indoor Field hockey, once resumed will continue with the same number of sessions as scheduled but days and times may vary. Spring sports (baseball, softball and tee ball) are unaffected at this time as they are not scheduled to start for a few more weeks. We are planning to carry on with these programs as scheduled.

We are very disappointed to have to have to halt our current sports programs but we feel it is in the best interest of our community to assist in limiting the potential spread of the coronavirus and keep those that are at high risk safe. We are simply placing our youth and our communities’ health and safety first.

We plan on monitoring the situation very closely as all this continues to unfold and AYS will do everything we can to stay in line with latest recommended health guidelines. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and hope you all will understand our decision.

In the meantime we encourage everyone to stay safe and remain hopeful that we will be able to get back to normal as soon as possible.

If you have any questions with regards to basketball, soccer, or field hockey, we refer you to the commissioners of those sports. @Heather Williams-basketball @Jennahh WM Rocque- soccer @Ashley Draper -field hockey

COVID19 & AYS

Posted on March 12, 2020 at 5:15 PM Comments comments (0)

With the national news, local news, and social media so heavily focused on thecoronavirus and a confirmed presumptive positive case in Maine, we at AYS, are encouraging people not to panic but just to be aware and be educated on the virus. Please just take a few minutes to read up on symptoms, hand washing, and risk factors.

We are currently preparing to finish the remainder of the basketball season, indoor soccer and indoor field hockey as scheduled. Our #1 concern is the health and safety of our athletes and community so let’s do our part to limit exposure. We ask that you help us by keeping sick athletes, with a cough or other contagious symptoms at home, even if that means having to miss a game or practice due to illness. We are asking that all athletes to WASH THEIR HANDS before entering the gym and to sanitize frequently. If you have family members or friends that are in the higher risk groups including advanced age, compromised immune system, pre-existing and cardiopulmonary issues (such as COPD, smoker, diabetes, high blood pressure) please encourage them to take the proper precautions which may mean avoiding large crowds where illness can be more easily transmitted.

While the chances of getting seriously ill are low for us and our younger population let’s make sure we do our part in protecting those people that have increased risk factors. If we all work together, we can all get through this healthy. We appreciate your cooperation, and support through this time so we can continue with all our current sports.
